My No-Fuss, Quick Hair Fix
12.23.09

As mentioned in previous posts, I have thick, coarse, curly Italian hair that I struggle to
successfully style. But, when I do discover tools, products and tips which help me to have a
good hair day, I am always willing to share them in the hopes that someone else will have a
good hair day too. My most recent discovery is what I like to call my "No-Fuss, Quick Hair Fix".
Recently, I have been working out in the evenings after work. This of course requires a shower
when I get home. Instead of styling my hair, I have been simply putting in a leave-in conditioner
and letting it air-dry while I am making dinner, watching tv and prepping for the next day of
work. I discovered that when pulled back into a pony-tail, my hair dries rather nicely. The
conditioner weighs my curls down a bit, the pony-tail pulls the hair closer to my roots somewhat
straight and the actual tail of the pony-tail takes on a nice wave. With a dry head of hair,
I happily head to bed.
When I wake up, it looks even better! It seems that 6-8 hours on the pillow seems to calm down
the "poofiness" of my hair even more. I hop in the shower with a cap on in order to freshen up
and start my day.
In terms of styling my hair once I am done getting dressed, I pull my hair back in a pony-tail
and throw on a wide black stretch cotton headband and place it almost directly on my hair-line.
It gives my pony-tail a bit of style and sophistication. (A loose French braid, bun or French
twist would also work) As an added bonus, it holds down those pesky "fly-aways" and "wispies"
which inevitably frame my face.
You can find a wide black stretch headband literally anywhere. I found the one pictured above
on Target's website, but CVS and Walgreens also have them. The only real requirement is that
have a decent amount of stretch so it stays in place.
So, the next time that you just can't be bothered with styling your hair or can't stand the
thought of braving the cold with a head of wet hair, pull your hair back in a pony-tail (or
bun, or French twist, or French braid), pull on a wide black headband and be on your way!
